Choosing a broadband supplier isn't easy. You have a choice of telephone or cable companies to choose from. Then you have to decide whether you want to have wired or use wireless connections.
Just to name a few of the companies offering broadband:

The cost of broadband can be anything between £10 and £40 per month depending on the speed on the broadband connection you require.
Most if not all companies now offer their broadband packages with either a wired or wireless router and setting up a router can be daunting.
Here are a few helpful tips on how to setup a wired broadband router.
1. Connect your broadband filters to the relevant telephone sockets
2. Plug in the telephone cable that came with your router into the main broadband filter
3. Plug the other end of the telephone cable into the broadband routers socket marked as WAN or Internet
4. Use an Ethernet cable (can be yellow, blue or any colour but is usually provided with the router) to plug into the back of your computer (assuming you have a network card installed) and into any socket on the router marked LAN
5. Switch on your computer and router
6. Now you have 2 choices a) use the setup disk that came with the router and follow the on screen instructions or b) continue below to do this part manually
7. Go into Internet Explorer and type 192.168.1.1 (this can vary depending on the router. You can also go into a DOS prompt (by clicking start menu RUN and enter CMD and OK. Type ipconfig and press return. Make a note of the Default Gateway address.
8. Enter the username and password provided by your broadband supplier could be admin and admin
9. Look for a page that says internet access or WAN and enter your broadband username and password. You will also have to specify whether you are on PPPOA or PPPOE (depends on broadband provider)
10. Now try and see if you can surf the Internet!
If you get stuck you will have to either call your broadband suppliers helpline or call in a local expert.
