Broadband or the internet  went from a simple experiment by the US Department of Defense to a muti-trillion dollar industry in just under 30 years. The internet however precedes broadband as it dates back to the 1950s as a project by the US Department of Defense to enable university computers to communicate with each other for security purposes. As nature would do, university students began using the internet to communicate with other people.
By the early 1980s, the internet was now being accessed through dial-up modems over telephone lines. This overall expansion and an increase in the number of users led Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to design and develop faster data transmission, and that bore broadband in 2000. ISPs began competing for customers and in overall brought the price of broadband down as it became the most popular form of internet.
Broadband is more than 10 times faster than dial-up internet, and it enables more applications such as downloading movies, music, games and a lot of business opportunities.
Mobile  Broadband

4G is known as the future of mobile broadband. It allows incredibly faster download speeds, more stable connections and enables larger download allowances.
Long Term Evolution (LTE) as it is known will offer speeds of up to 1 GB, and while this service is not yet available, it has already been tried and tested in Sweden. The future is bright for mobile broadband.

These are just our tips and advice from our own experiences. You may be best contacting your broadband provider first.

Tips for total loss of internet:

The first thing to consider is have you installed anything on your computer or installed or moved any telephone related equipment that may have caused this issue?

Has something happened to your phone line? Have you got a dial tone?

If you are still having problems try to access the internet from another device if you are able to. If another device can access the internet then obviously it is just an issue with the initial device rather than an issue with your broadband connection.

If you cannot access the internet from multiple devices or you just have the one device then the next step is to check your broadband router or modem. An obvious sign would be any red error lights. Try rebooting or powering off and on your router or modem. Wait about 30 seconds and then try the internet again.

If you are still having problems you are going to have to contact your broadband provider.

They should be able to run tests that determine whether the problem is on the phone line or at your premises.

If they tell you that the problem is at your premises then they may offer to send someone out but bear in mind it may cost you especially if the problem turns out to be something that is not the fault of the broadband provider. Another option is to call out a local IT technician.

If you are not happy with the service from your current broadband provider or you feel that you are paying too much then switching to a new provider isn’t as difficult as you might think.

The first thing to do is to have a good look around for a company that is offering everything you need such as good service, fast speeds  and obviously compare prices.

Typically transfers take about 7 days and because most of the leading suppliers have signed up to a code of practice things so relatively smoothly.

The process:

Step 1 is to contact your current broadband supplier and ask for a MAC code

Step 2 look around for the best deal to suit you

Step 3 contact your new preferred broadband provider, give them the MAC code. They should take care of the rest and within around 7 days you will be transferred over. There should be no loss of service.

There are many broadband speed testers out there that you can use to determine the actual speed of your broadband connection.

It quite cleverly has additional pages that show results that other people have done in your area as well to see whether it is just you or the area that you are in that is the problem.

Mobile broadband using 3G is fast enough for you to download online videos, music, and video conferencing or to view a photo album on the web. The next generation of mobile broadbad is 4G, or fourth generation. It ups the speed of 3G by ten times, with general download speeds of 700 Kbps to 1.7 Mbps. For uploading, your speed is increased from 500 Kbps to 1.2 Mbps. Although this is not as fast as fixed broadband from cable modem or from FiOS, it is just about as fast as DSL. That is good for a mobile device, but it is important to note that your speeds will vary depending on your signal strength.

Aside from being fast, it also allows you more freedom and convenience. Instead of having to hunt down a wireless hotspot, your internet access goes anywhere you go. This is great for people on the go, as you can use your online access from your mobile devices anywhere you have a signal. From sitting in a park to sitting in your car, you have access to the web anytime, anywhere. This is great for anyone who has a need to access the internet, to keep up on tweets or Facebook, to monitoring the latest movement in the stock market, being able to have the internet with you wherever you go is surely only the beginning of our ability to be on the go and in the know.
