SEO Link Building     How important is it?

One of the most important parts of a SEO campaign is link building.

Link building is all about getting good quality inbound links to your website.

Ways of doing this include exchanging links with other website owners and submitting your website to directories, blogs and forums.

It is a tedious part of SEO but certainly worth doing.

If you can get a website to link to your site without you linking back that is better than a reciprocal because they see it as a vote of confidence. Inbound SEO link building should be made your number 1 priority in your SEO campaign.

You should avoid link farms and purchasing links.

You should also check out any offer of a link exchange. What you should look for includes is the website linking to you cached on Google (if you install the Google toolbar you will find this option), how many links are on the page that link to you. The more links on that page the less important the link is.

You should submit to DMOZ (and be patient this can take some time to get listed since it is run by volunteers) and also think about submitting to the Yahoo directory.
